散髪

今日はお休みだったので、ほぼ2ヶ月ぶりに散髪に出かける。ちょっとすっきり。

When Harry met Sally…

今週末は久しぶりに出かけない予定の3連休なので、昨日の夜に何本か映画でも見ようと思ってDVDを借りてきた。別に新しい映画を見たいわけでもないので、久しぶりにラブコメディを見たいなぁと思い立ってWhen Harry met Sally(邦題:「恋人達の予感」(1989))を借りてきてみた。気に入っている映画を一つあげろと言われるとなかなか難しい問いだが、この映画はかなり気に入っている作品だ。Meg RyanとBilly Crystalの駆け引きが絶妙な映画だと思うのだが、この映画でMegに惚れ込んでしまったという友人(僕もそうだが)がいる訳で、Megの魅力が溢れ出ていた名作だろうと思う。
この映画のテーマは至ってシンプルで男女間に友情は成り立つのか？と言う話なのだが、出だしのシカゴからニューヨークまでのドライブの間に交わされる以下のやりとりだろうか? (対訳を見つけたので、訳はここには載せなくて良いだろう。) 僕はHarryほど極端な意見は持っていないが、まぁある意味真理かなぁと思ったりはする。

Harry: You realize that we could never be friends.Sally: Why not?Harry: What I'm syaing is and this is not a come-on in any way men and womens can't be friends because the sex part always get in the way.Sally: That's not true. I have a number of men friends, and there is no sex involved.Harry: No, you don't.Sally: Yes, I do.Harry: You only think you do.Sally: You're saying I'm having sex with these men without my knowledge?Harry: What I'm saying is, they all want to have sex with you.Sally: They do not.Harry: Do too.Sally: How do you know?Harry: Because no man can be friends with a woman he finds attractive.He always wants to have sex with her.Sally: So you're saying a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive.Harry: No. You pretty much want to nail them too.Sarry: What if they don't wanna have sex with you? Harry: Doesn't matter, because the sex thing is already out there so the friendship is ultimately doomed, and that is the end of the story.Sally: I guess we're not gonna be friends.Harry: Guess not.Sally: It's too bad, because you were the only person that I knew in New York.

結末は以下のような台詞でハッピーエンドという何ともはぐらかされたかなぁ感じを受けたのだが、そのままさようならと言う結末でも、分かれてまた何年か後に再会という結末でも観客は満足できないわけだから、気の利いた台詞で、やっぱり彼女の気を一気に引くような台詞を吐いてハッピーエンドという線に落ち着くのかね。

Harry: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out.I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich.I love that you get a little crinkle above your nosewhen you're looking at me like I'm nuts.I love after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on me.I love that you are the last person Iwanna talk to before I go to sleep.And it's not because I'm lonly, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve.I came here tonight, because when you realize you wanna spend the rest of your lifewith somebody you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.Sally: You see?That is just like you.You say things like that and you make it impossible for me to hate you.And I hate you, Harry.I really hate you.I hate you.

監督のAudio Commentaryを聞きながら見てもエンディングをどうするかなかなか決まらなかったらしく、上のHarryの台詞は結局即興で作ったみたいだ。こういう台詞はなかなか言えないねぇ。
それにしてもAudio Commentaryによれば、この映画は全編ニューヨークの実在の建物で撮影されているようで、至る所にニューヨークの美しいシーンがちりばめられている。もう失われてしまった景色もあるし、現実にはこんなに美しくはないのかも知れないけれど、僕の場合この映画と言えば公園の鮮やかな紅葉が印象に残っているので、一度ニューヨークに行ってみたいなぁと思うのだが、なかなか実現はしないだろうな。
この映画の場合は日常会話が非常に多くてListeningが非常に厳しいと僕なんかは感じるわけだが。こうやって書き出してみると結構勉強になったりするので、いつもアクション映画ばかりじゃ駄目だなと思うのね。(ラブコメを一人で見るのも辛いものがあるが。) この映画のDVDは買っても良いかなと思ったりしたわけだ。
