Bookmarkの整理

しばらく前からやろうと思っていたのだが、WebブラウザのBookmarkの整理を行った。しばらく見ていないページとか、Unreachableになってしまったページの削除を行っただけだが、ざっと60件くらいで全体の4分の1くらいか。結構無くなっているものだなぁ。

炎

The Fellowship of the RingのThe Bridge of Khazad-dumに出てくるガンダルフの以下の台詞が、ずっと僕の中では謎だった。一応映画のほうから引用。(たしか原書も同じ。)

Gandalf: You Cannot pass!Frodo:   Gandalf!Gandalf: I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor.The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun! Go back to the Shadow!You shall not pass!

the flame of Anorの方は、Anorがシンダール語(Middle-Earthで広く使われているエルフ語)で太陽を意味するので、太陽の炎のことを指すことは分かっていた。ずっと謎だったのは、flame of Udunの方で、Udunはどう言う意味だろうと気になっていた。
The Encyclopedia of ArdaのUdunによれば、Melkor’s ancient fortress in the far north of the Worldとあって、The Sindarin name of Utumnoなのですか。なるほど。さしずめ「地獄の炎」とか「煉獄の炎」と言ったところですかね。
